The Volunteer provides opportunities for Christians to volunteer their time and skills to help improve the quality of life for residents in the area. As they minister to the poor in a holistic context they are also involved in a multi-cultural experience. Volunteers tutor students, teach Bible classes, assist teachers in the classrooms, clean buildings, repair fences, work on the Farm, refurbish homes in the community, repair/upgrade buildings on Ministry campus and do office work. A major facet of the Volunteer Ministry is home renovation. Projects include remodeling and renovating homes, churches and other non-profit facilities in Simpson and surrounding counties.
The Volunteer Ministry’s three-fold mission is:
"This is the best place to come for a mission trip..... I can't wait to come back"
"God has something for you at Mendenhall. You don't need a degree or special talent to help. Your life will change for the better. This experience will draw you closer to the Great Commission.... Please trust God and see how you will be blessed."
"If someone is undecided about which short-term ministry to attend, I will tell them that if they want to experience God's presence, God's power, God's love, and God's results, (through God's people), come to serve at [The] Mendenhall Ministries. They will be blessed more than they will bless others!"
Volunteers and homeowners work side-by-side to complete the work. Ideally, the homeowner buys the materials needed for the repairs and works alone side volunteers to provide the labor. In some cases, however, the Ministry assists the homeowner with the cost of materials.
The Mendenhall Ministries can accommodate up to 100 individuals in its barrack-style Volunteer Center. Volunteers usually come in groups through their churches or colleges for one week. Opportunities are also available for long-term volunteers.
